Alchemy: A History

History

1996 : Alchemy was founded in March and first began with the distribution of the Phrasea products (1.3 version). At the time, the company had one and only employee.

- The solution works under Power PCs 604 (120Mhz with SCSI 9G° hard disks).

- The Internet access is done by then with ISDN lines at 64Ko.

- Digital Photography is just beginning. The market’s not ready yet.

1997-1998 : Apple suffers a major crisis; Phrasea manages to set up its applications to work under Windows.

1999-2000 : The major part of the stock of “B&L Parenthèses” is acquired and becomes Phrasea Software.

2001 : Alchemy launches the hosting platform « Phraseanet.com ».

2002 : Alchemy starts a new strategy with the development of a brand new solution under the name of ‘Project IV’.

2003-2004 : Development of Project IV.

2005 : Alchemy launches "Phraseanet IV" in April, which is the fourth generation of applications of the Phrasea range and uses standard technologies only (MySQL, PHP, XML...).

2006 : One year only after Phraseanet IV is released, Alchemy has set up more than 50 solutions.

- The solution uses standard web servers & technologies.
- Digital Photography has now become a major stake in the computer market.

2007 : Special Offer dedicated to City Halls, "PhotoMairie"

2007 - 2008 : Phraseanet IV 2.1 Release in September, at the Apple Expo Paris.

2008 : Offer dedicated to Photographers : Professional Websites from 40€ a month.

2010 : Release of Phraseanet v3.0 at the Linux Solutions Exhibition in Paris, March 16-18, 2010. Phraseanet is now Open Source.
